Wireless Network

Configuring Wireless Networking on Windows 7 and Vista (personal computer)

Users of the managed Windows 7 Service will already have Wireless set up to use the eduroam network.

Download the Windows XP configuration instructions.

Introduction

You will need to join the setup-wifi network. When connected to the setup-wifi, if you open a web browser you will be redirected to a page which will help configure your device.

The instructions given below are only for when this mechanism does not work.

Certificate Authority Installation

First you need to install the Loughborough University Certificate Authority.

  1. Right click on this link. Download the Loughborough University Certificate Authority and choose to Save Link As or Save Target As.

    Open File - Security Warning.

  2. Double click on the certificate to open it.

    Certificate.

  3. Click Install Certificate.

    The import wizard will open.

    Certificate Import Wizard - Welcome.

  4. Click Next to continue.

    Certificate Import Wizard - Store.

  5. Choose Place all certificates in the following store and then click Browse.

    Select Certificate Store.

  6. From the list chose Trusted Root Certificates, then click OK.

  7. Click Next to continue, then click Finish. Finally you will be presented with a warning box asking you whether you want to install the certificate.

  8. Click Yes.

Wireless Configuration

  1. In the system tray (in the bottom right corner) click on the wireless icon and you will be presented with a list of available wireless networks.

  2. Click on eduroam.

  3. Click the Connect button.

    A network authentication window will pop up.

  4. For the username enter your University username appended with @lboro.ac.uk. Then for the password enter your University password. Click OK.

  5. A pop up box will appear warning you The connection attempt could not be completed.

  6. Check if the certificate Details say The server "radius.lboro.ac.uk" presented a valid certificate issued by "Loughborough University Certificate Authority". If so, then click Connect. Otherwise click Terminate and contact the Service Desk.

  7. After you have been successfully authenticated, a pop up window will ask you to select a location the network.

    Set Network Location.

  8. Click on Work network.

Your computer is now configured and in future should connect automatically.
