The Core, Generic Service (individual services in alphabetical order)
Apple Mac Support Provides antivirus protection and Active Directory integration and support with access to certain University services for Macintosh users on campus. This service is limited to academic staff for bona fide specialist teaching and research purposes only, plus support services in Design and Media where the Mac is the appropriate professional tool. Academic staff and Design & Media staff within Design Services.
File Storage Provides file storage Staff; Students.
Internet Gives secure access to the Internet. Staff; students.
Intranet Gives the capability of publishing documents available from a web browser to members of the University. Staff; research Students.
Mobile Computing (smart phones) Provides information via University web pages on setting up a number of smart phones. Staff; students; organisations which have purchased charged services.
Off-Campus Working (Virtual Private Network) Provides access to resources from off-campus. Staff; students.
PC Model (Staff) [was Staff Desktop] Gives users access to personal productivity tools and corporate information systems on desktop and notebook computers. IT staff in academic depts. and support services.
Service Desk Provides a single point of contact for all IT Services' customers and users. Staff; students; organisations which have purchased charged services
Staff E-mail and Groupware Provides e-mail and groupware facilities. Staff; research students.
Specialist Software Provides specialist software applications. Staff; students.
Training Provides face-to-face training in and self-teaching material on common applications. Staff; research students.
Visiting Academic Network Access (eduroam) Provides users from eduroam-enabled institutions with secure access to the Internet when visiting other eduroam-enabled institutions. Staff; students; visitors.
Web Hosting Provides users with the ability to provide web content outside of the University corporate website using their own domain names or names within the University's domain. Staff; students.
Wireless (Wi-Fi) Gives users wireless access to network resources via any device with a Wi-Fi card. Staff; students; visitors.
The Research Service (individual services in alphabetical order)
High-Performance Computing Provides high-performance computing (HPC) facilities and support. Academic and research staff in departments where this function is relevant.
Personal Research Plan (PRP) Develops and supports, for the Research Office, Academics, and the Department Administrators, a web application to enable completion and production of Personal Research Plans. All Academic Staff, the Research Office, and Department Administrators.
Research Project Costing (RACE-2) Develops and supports, for the Research Office, the corporate research costings management system, RACE-2. Research Office.
Research Publications Catalogue (Publications Database) Develops and supports, for the Research Office, an in-house-developed corporate catalogue of research publications. Research Office.
The Education and Student Experience Service (individual services listed in alphabetical order)
Central Timetabling Develops and supports, for Facilities Management, the University's central timetabling system CMIS from supplier Serco Learning. The system provides functionality for timetabling pool and locally-managed rooms, and for examination scheduling. Staff in FM, academic departments, academic registry; staff and students can access the timetables.
Computer-Assisted Assessment (Perception) Develops and supports, for the Teaching Centre, the computer-assisted assessment system, Perception. Teaching Centre.
E-learning (Virtual Learning Environment; LEARN) Develops and supports, for the Teaching Centre, the open-source-based e-learning facilities within LEARN, the University's Virtual Learning Environment. Teaching Centre.
Induction for taught course students Provides induction courses for taught-course students, introducing them to the key services provided by IT Services. Those organising taught-course student induction programmes.
Labs (owned by IT Services) Provides labs for teaching and studying purposes. Academic staff; students.
Labs Booking for Exams Configuration and support of an ITS managed PC or iMac lab to meet the requirements for exam conditions. Student Exams Office staff, invigilators, and students identified as having IT requirements for exams, as nominated by the Student Exams Office.
Labs Model Provides a PC labs model for academic departments to use within their own labs. IT staff in academic departments.
Lecture Capture System (ReVIEW) This service develops and supports, in conjunction with the Teaching Centre and Facilities Management, the automated recording of lectures in pool rooms across campus. Captured lectures are made available to students via Learn. Teaching Centre, Facilities Management.
Network Access from Halls of Residence (HallNet) Provides students, hall wardens and sub-wardens access to the University network from hall of residence study bedrooms using their own computers. Students; hall wardens; hall sub-wardens.
PC Clinic A free drop-in clinic offering support for PC hardware and software and general IT Support. Mainly students but also staff for personally owned computers.
Printing and Copying Provides charged printing and copying. Students who have purchased credits.
Student Accommodation Management (Kx) Develops and supports, for imago, the student accommodation management system (Kx from Kinetic Solutions). imago.
Student Administration (LUSI) Develops and supports, for Academic Registry, the in-house-developed student administration facilities within LUSI, the University's student information system. Academic Registry.
Student E-mail and Groupware Provides e-mail and groupware facilities. Students.
Test design and analysis using Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) Provides an OMR service for assessment purposes. Academic staff; students.
The Corporate Activity Service (individual services listed in alphabetical order)
Access Control (ESi and Symmetry) Develops and supports, for the Facilities Management department, the access control systems which are used to control vehicle access to campus and personal access to buildings and rooms. Facilities Management (plus Human Resources plus Planning).
Address Management Develops and supports address management facilities (Matchcode from Capscan) within University systems. Staff running corporate services / systems.
Business Consultancy Covers IT strategic and operational planning, feasibility studies, business process review, cost / benefit analysis and project management (including post-implementation review). Academic departments.; support services; corporate groups.
Financial Management (Agresso; BACs transfer; DeCal and WPM) Develops and supports, for the Finance department, the finance system (Agresso Business World from Unit 4 Business Software), the BACS transfer system (from Albany Software), the purchase card system (DeCal from D.Cal), and online payment facilities for students (WPM from WPM Education). Human Resources & Payroll Management (iTrent and Business Objects) Develops and supports, for the HR department, the HR and payroll system (Trent from Midland HR) and related reporting tool Business Objects (from Business Objects). HR (plus Finance plus Planning)
Online Store Provides a single, secure solution to taking online payments by debit or credit card and is fully integrated with the University finance system. National and international students, parents, staff, donors and other external customers
Space (Archibus) & Estate Management (Esmi) Develops and supports, for the Facilities Management department, the Space Management system (Archibus from Exitech) and the Estates Management Information system (ESMI, an in-house Oracle system). Facilities Management

Encrypted Transfer of Data (Secure Socket Layer) Provides Secure Sockets Layer (SSL, also known as Transport Layer Security (TLS)) certificates for encryption of web traffic or other internet applications and advice on their implementation and management. Internet Gives secure access to the Internet. Organisations on campus.
Manual Registration Registers non-standard users for IT accounts and provides role accounts for use by University departments. Academic depts.; support services; organisations on campus.
Non-core Network Provides a managed networking service from Internet connectivity through to the socket on the wall and PC on the desk. Organisations on campus
PC Lab Hire (IT Services owned Labs) Provides PC labs for conferences and training courses. Academic depts.; support services; some organisations on campus.
Personal PC / Laptop Support (The IT Pitstop) Provides charged support of PCs and laptops owned by individuals. Run by an independent contractor. Staff; Students.
Server Back-up and Restore Provides back-up of customer-owned servers at regular intervals, and restoration of data after hardware failure, etc. Academic depts.; support services; organisations on campus.
Server Management of Hosted Servers Provides server hosting and management, including technical consultancy and liaison with third-party suppliers. Academic depts.; support services; organisations on campus.
