Research students are provided with a Macintosh desktop computer with all the necessary software to carry out their work. The systems are of varying standard and computational power depending on the nature of the research project and any external funding that may support it.
For postgraduate taught students personal machines are not provided, but there are two postgraduate Macintosh laboratories which provide the same facilities enjoyed by research students. These laboratories can be used by masters course students 24 hours per day.
In addition to computers provided by the Department, there is a university high performance computational facility which includes a 200 processor computational cluster, a shared memory machine (SGI Altix) and a visualisation centre. Access to this can be provided for individual research projects.
