Biography
After studying Politics at Northampton and Conflict Studies and Dispute Resolution at Derby, I started my PhD at Loughborough, which focused on exploring the relevance of the associational theory of Johannes Althusius (1567-1638) to contemporary sui generic associations, such as the European Union. Upon completion of my PhD, I have taught on various courses, including a second year Theory and methods and a final year option on Nationalism.
In addition to the work of Althusius on which I have had two articles published, my interests include the history of Yugoslavia, especially focusing on the role of Edvard Kardelj in the creation of Titoist constitutionalism; Nationalism as a canon of political thought, focusing predominantly on the works of Johann Fichte and John Dalberg-Acton; and ‘political’ Calvinism, especially on Afrikanerdom in South Africa and its connection to the ‘Afrikaner Paradigm’.
