Systems Division
Profile
The research activities of the Systems Division are concerned with the development and use of the advanced processing capabilities provided by modern electronic devices.
Activities range from studies of devices (new technologies, modelling, reliability), design and application research (VHDL design, system-on-chip, targeted processors), and system applications (photonics, real-time control). The individual research groups' specialist expertise is brought together in appropriate collaborative teams to undertake particular research projects.
All the activities are characterised by a high degree of industrial collaboration, and this ensures the relevance and timeliness of the Division's research. Among the list of companies sponsoring the research are ARM, BAE Systems, Bombardier Transportation, Yorkshire Water, TRW and Marconi.
In recognition of the broad range of disciplines relevant to systems research, we are also involved closely with the work of the inter-departmental Loughborough Research School of Systems Engineering and the Systems Engineering Innovation Centre.
The Department is a member of the International Council for Systems Engineering, INCOSE, the UK chapter. It also has a seat on the UK Advisory Board (UKAB), a forum for UK Systems Engineering organisations (within industry, government and academia) to influence the activities that INCOSE UK undertakes, and the systems engineering best practice that INCOSE UK promotes.
