My research interests lie in contemporary Irish theatre and 20th-Century British drama, specifically focusing on questions of nationalism, gender, postcolonialism and postmodernity. I am particularly interested in the work of Martin McDonagh, as well as other contemporary Irish dramatists, and modern British playwrights, specifically Harold Pinter and Sarah Kane. Other research interests include theatrical protest and censorship, contemporary Irish Studies, trauma studies and questions surrounding the limitations of representation from a Lyotardian perspective. I am currently working on an edited volume looking at Irish Studies post 1980, covering history, politics, cultural studies and geography, as well as theatre studies and literature.
I teach on the undergraduate drama modules Textual 1, Textual 2 and Performance 2, as well as Contemporary Irish Theatre, and A Revolt against Fate: Literature and Theatre of the Absurd. I contribute to History, Nation, Difference on the English MA and Modern and Contemporary Texts in Performance and Theatre and Theory: Performance and Culture as part of the MA Drama programme. I am also part of the revolving teaching team for the practical modules Group Project and Theatre Practice. I am currently supervising PhD studies into Irish literature and trauma studies and Beckett and existentialism and welcome research proposals.
