MRes Energy Studies

Minimum qualifications are:

  • Good first degree in relevant science (physics, natural sciences, chemistry, material science), engineering (civil, mechanical, chemical, electronic and electrical), or similar subjects related to energy and the built environment. Applicants with extensive relevant industry experience and a capability in engineering, science, or related fields equivalent to graduate level will also be considered.
  • International students also require English Language IELTS 6.5.

The competition for places means that, in practice, in addition to these degrees, many students also have a Master's degree or other higher qualification and expertise.

A common feature of our students is a strong commitment to become an accomplished researcher with the ability to organise and drive forward their own work and of interests that extend beyond their native discipline. Whilst the tenacity to learn the principles of building physics and associated engineering concepts is essential, such knowledge is not a pre-requisite for joining this course.

Students need to be based in Loughborough to satisfactorily follow the course and to benefit from the associated programme of site visits, laboratory and field work.
