Interests and Experience

Nick Evans trained as a chemist at the University of Southampton (BSc 1980) and as a secondary school teacher (PGCE 1982). He taught chemistry to "A"-level in England and Germany until 1999.  He then took an MSc in Analytical Chemistry at Loughborough University (2000), achieving a distinction, and did his PhD on “Studies on Metal ά-isosaccharinic acid complexes’ at Loughborough under the supervision of Professor Peter Warwick.  He was then appointed as a Research Associate and has worked on organic complexation in the Near Field of a radioactive Waste repository and on radionuclide transport in the environment, with emphasis on the role of humic substances, publishing many papers and reports, detailed below.  He was appointed as a Lecturer in Radiochemistry in May 2007, and Senior Lecturer in January 2011.

He is the leader of Work Package 1 for the EPSRC DIAMOND Consortium (www.diamondconsortium.org), and is involved in the NERC BIGRAD Consortium (www.bigr adnerc.com), the EC FP7 ReCOSY European project (www.recosy.eu) and the EC FP7 SKIN European project.

He was the leader of Work Package 1.3 in the FUNMIG EU Integrated Project involving coordinating work in 5 different countries.  He was Chair of the Technical Organising Committee for the Workshop “UK Long-Term Nuclear Waste Management: Next steps?”  He has organised conferences and Workshops on behalf of Aquanet (www.gees.bham.ac.uk/research/aquanet), COGER (http://coger.org.uk) and the European Integrated Project FUNMIG (www.funmig.com) as well as the UK Long-term Nuclear Waste Management Meeting held at Loughborough in 2006.
