August 2011 – Graduates of 1966 revisited their old haunts!

The Chemistry department hosted a visit from the first Chemical Sciences Graduates from Loughborough University of Technology. The group, all male (as hardly any females went to Loughborough in the 1960s) were here for the weekend and came to see the many changes that have occurred since they graduated in 1966. They had a thoroughly enjoyable weekend and even managed to catch up with some old staff.

Digital exhibit: e-KnowNet project

Loughborough photochemists Dr Dave Worrall and Dr Sian Williams have contributed a digital exhibit to the e-KnowNet project at http://www.sciencetweets.eu/photochemistry/exhibits/type-a-unique-slug-143/to-begin-with?target=students.  The digital exhibit describes some of their work on developing materials for solar energy conversion and is part of the photochemistry science tweets strand, which was recently awarded the International Year of Chemistry 2011 label. The e-KnowNet project, supported by the EC under the Lifelong Learning Programme, aims to develop a network enabled by information and communication technologies (ICT) in order to facilitate the flow of new scientific knowledge from the research laboratory to larger, non-expert segments of society, in forms suitable for non-formal learning.
