Collaborations with industry

Academic staff within the Department are keen to work with industry to facilitate knowledge transfer and this can take many forms.

Collaboration with industry through focused research projects is a common activity. Such collaborations can span a short term period of just a few weeks and might involve use of specialist facilities or consultancy type work. Collaborative research can also be in the form of projects lasting several months or an even longer period (e.g. through funding a PhD student or a Post-doctoral Research Associate). Funding for blue sky research projects may be obtained by making joint funding applications to UK Research Councils for example. For further information, please contact:

Knowledge Transfer Partnerships

A Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) is a three-way collaboration between the Department, the Company and a graduate working on a project central to the needs of the company for a period of 1 - 3 years.

For general information on KTPs please visit the working with business website.
